Abstract impressionist or fine art photography is a style I appear drawn too. Possibly it is a style I shall attempt/to follow this year (2018). I enjoy the effects I can get straight out of camera (SOOC) without too much editing in Lightroom or Photoshop.
Black and white photography is also a challenge to capture the shades in the light and shadows in each item photographed. it can be mysterious, nostalgic or dramatic. Not sure any of these qualify but there you are!
Shots taken in Winter in an older central Wellington apartment. Plus one from the apartment on the Terrace where I used to live. I like taking shots of apartment interiors but the light has to be right so that you get a more interesting and compelling photograph.
In the winter months in New Plymouth dogs can be on the beach any time of the day and there are usually a number of dogs there. In summer I understand they are required to be on a lead. These are a mixture of winter and summer photographs of dogs on the beach. Any humans included are purely unintentional
Some of the small towns scattered throughout New Zealand are almost ghost towns though still functioning (Ohura). Others like Okato, Taranaki have become dormitory suburbs for New Plymouth the nearest biggish town. Others like Patea have lost the industry that created their existence but still struggle on attempting to create their reason.
When I first took up photography in my first first flush of enthusiasm I wanted to be a "street photographer" but I lack the chutzpah to take random shots of people in the street, so I now prefer to take portraits of people I know and who are happy for me to take their photograph. Is easier and less nerve racking.
Buildings are great to photograph as they don't run away, scowl at you or try to avoid your lens. In certain lights they have lovely shapes and interesting light, shadows and reflections. .
New Plymouth is a place with a number of beautiful parks, the most popular are Pukekura and Brookland's Bowl. The latter which is host to a number of concerts during the year and every second year WOMAD. I have also included a couple of photographs taken in a park in Masterton when I was down there last Winter. It is more a Capability Brown type park with wide open spaces on which to walk and interesting items, or trees tucked into in corners
A place to post any recent photographs I have taken prior to moving them into a category if applicable, otherwise into the filing system on my computer.
